Golf is a sport that involves a lot of math. Yeah I know what you are thinking how could golf involve math but think of hitting a club. Different clubs have different lofts the greater the lift the more parabolic the shape will be. Golf is a sport of thinking because the lower the loft the more the ball will run. So this is another thing that you must think of when choosing a club. So golf is a sport that involves a lot of math because of the distance of the ball going in the parabolic shape and the running of the ball after hitting the ground.

Math is very important in activities and gulf is an example of one. Gulf uses parabolas mostly when it comes to math because it deals with the way the ball curves. It also deals with distance because they have to figure out how far the ball would go and what is the best way to make it travel the distance you want.

In this case, people aren't consciously using math because they are guesstimating based on experience, not calculating. But it is true that math is in everything (like the parabola you mentioned.) So although we may not be using math while playing golf, we can make sense of the way golf works by using math.

I have to admit that I didn't completely understand the purpose of the different clubs before I read this blog so thanks for explaining. But now it all makes sense, and I can see how math can be incorporated into the sport. Nice post!

Math is important in a game such as golf. Mathematics will determine wehter or not a golf ball lands in the hole. Even though it may be an afterthoguht to a golfer it is nice to see math applied to any sport.

I agree with Emma that the specifics of distance and loft in math is not consciously being used when picking your club or hitting the ball, but I do think that this information, along with physics, could be used as an experiment, perhaps, to get the best swing or play. I also think it's possible to create a machine that will do this with the mathematically information. Great post!

A lot of people assume most people who play sports are dumb. That is how T.V. shows portray these types of people, but athletes have to do math too. They have to calculate little things to make sure they can make the shot, kick the ball far enough, or even dive in the pool at the right angle.

And I agree with all of you golf is a sport that uses a bunch of math because lets say i hit my 9 iron 130 yards but i need to just hit it 120 what i would do is put less power but make sure i have enough to get it to the green. Math is used in knowing the correct amount of force behind the ball. And with different clubs there are different ways the ball fly's.

This is a very good blog. I knew that golf had different size clubs, but I never really knew why. I always thought that the bigger the end of the club, the farther it can go. Very interesting to find out that it's actually about the angle.

I'm not familiar to golf but I had always seen the players choose their clubs carefully. I always wondered why? But this post helped me understand! This a great post!

Wow, I never thought about golf having to do with math. Now it makes more sense that it does now that I think about it. I've never played golf but I know that there are different stick things and there are different weights and different angles. That is pretty cool that you play golf and used that as your blog. Good job

Personally, I don't have much knowledge when it comes to specific sports, but especially golf! I have always seen professionals carry numerous clubs pick out different ones for each stroke they do, but I never really knew why they did that. Great post!

I think there is a lot more math than just the parabolic shape because it hitting the ball and making it in also require other calculations such as angles and distance to the target as well as there are many factors that must be taken into consideration. For example, wind affects how far the ball travels as well as how you hit the ball determines what will happen after you hit it. It may just make the parabolic shape but there is a lot more math involved in golf.

I understand that each club will provide different arcs to determine distance but wouldn't the power of the person hitting it matter? I mean I doubt they can hit it with the exact same strength everytime so I feel like the math would primarily be calculated after.

I think golf is a sport that involves a lot of math especially if trying to determine the distance and how far to hit the ball. If you hit a ball in a bunker you also have to think about how you need to hit it to get it out of the bunker without going to far.

Great job explaining the parabolic shape that the club causes the ball to make and how far it will travel. But, when golfing should you also consider the force you are applying when hitting the ball? Also, the weather could affect your game and you would need to be able to make different calculations to adjust to this as well.

Great idea thinking about the math in a sport you love! I heavily agree with you on the portions of math you said went into golf, but do you think that there could be other aspects such as shaft length?
