Application of mathematics is the key to understanding the world around us. We strive to open your eyes to the world as we see it through our mathematical lenses. As a class, we share our blog, our knowledge, and our growth and it is "Co-sined" by all of us.
Ever wondered how math is involved with golf? Me either until I had to write this post but I guess I should inform you on the many different ways that math and how all those random numbers actually play a role in golf. To begin, each golf club is set a certain loft. The loft, which in a sense is the angle the golf clubs is set at, may be sixty degrees maybe or may be fifteen degrees this varies based on each club. Each loft has an affect on how far you will hit the golf ball. The lower the loft the more direct of a hit, in return the ball will go for longer distances. Also, you score is, very obviously, affected in golf and to calculate it you use math. With golf, all the birdies will put you at one under each time you get one or all the bogies will put you one over. If you play a completely an entire round of golf shooting par on every hole you shoot even. If you shoot a birdie on eight holes that would cause you to be eight under. You may also get a double or triple bogie which is two or three over and an eagle is two under, each score will cause you to be over or under the par for a course. That's how math affects your score in golf! (Bryce Garner) http://www.connectamillionminds.com/campaigns/stem-in-sports/golf

I do not know much about golf, so this was interesting to me. I have found that a lot of sports contain math in ways we don't think about because of trajectory and coordination required. Great post!

Golf igloo is more complex than I thought. I always thought that you just hit a ball and hope for the best. I didn't know that golf including so much math. You have to calculate you score after each goal.

I never realized that you must use different angles with different clubs in a game of golf. Each of which will affect how far the ball will go when hit.

This was an interesting post about golf and how much it is involved with math. I don't know anything about golf so this was cool to learn about.

I also knew that there was a difference between each golf club, but I didn't know what that difference club. This post really gave me a whole new perspective on golf and I found this post to be very interesting. Great post!!!

Hey Bryce you wrote about the same thing about me so I know about this topic already but it was still alright, because golf is a math sport

May have been similar,, still haven't read yours, but I clearly have the superior post!

Great post considering how similar it is to Ryan's. I did not realize that each club had different amounts of loft. However, math will not affect my score in golf because tennis is life. Good job Bruce.

Thank you Caleb. But your right, it won't affect your score because you wouldn't even be a key to get the golf ball off the tee, therefore disqualifying you :)

Bruce, amazing post, the content seems familiar though. Maybe it's just because I know everything about golf, or there is another post like this. But overall great job explaining the concepts!!!!!!!!

Thank you sir, your kind words have inspired me. Yet I have lacked to read Ryan's post so I don't even know how they are similar, so I did not base it off of his haha, either way, mine was better!

I never really understood the point in golf but now that you explained it a little more I kind of get the point. We can see how math can be involved in golf. Don't golf players have to measure the distance in their head to make it into theach hole?

Well that depends. On the golf course their are general markers to the green (this is where the hole is) that tell you how many yards away you are. Also, many people have range finders that allow them to ping the top of the flag and it tells you how far away from the hole you are!

Good post! I like how you expanded on Ryan's post (even though you didn't read it) and talked about the other aspects of the best game ever.
